Vintage Album Covers
   Volume Ten

Orienta - Volume Ten features lots of dames, babes, goils and chicks, just for a little change of pace.  So first, meet Oriental Gal and her two cartoon friends, Sullen Girl and Tinky-Winky.

Choice cuts: Nagasaki, Yokahama Ferryboat, Runaway Rickshaw

Serenade For Sex Kittens - I know this is supposed to be a family show, but let me quote the liner notes here: "Sex Kitten... flat-tummied, twin-turreted gamin... her manner, her madness, her music."  Now we'll shrink her picture and stick her on a violin - perfect!

Choice cuts: My One And Only Love, Suddenly It's Spring, Going My Way

Latin Lace - The photographer on this shoot reports that the model with the curvy back was "too Hispanic-looking" for Capitol Records, so they pasted the pic of some blue-eyed Anglo onto the mirror.  A true story!

Choice cuts: The Moon Was Yellow, Sand In My Shoes, It's Not For Me To Say

Pretty Baby - The liner notes remind us, "A babe in the arms is worth two in the phonebook."  There's really nothing I could add here that isn't already captured in Dino's face.  A personal favorite.

Choice cuts: Nevertheless, I Don't Know Why, Sleepy Time Gal

Memories Are Made of These - No, no, of these, you know - records and letters and things, you silly.

Choice cuts: Embraceable You, I Dream Of You, In The Still Of The Night

Smoke Dreams - From the liner notes: "When you put this record on, you will feel that Ronnie is formulating, gradually he will fade in, staying for over 30 minutes..."  Uhhhh, drugs are bad, mmkay?

Choice cuts: I'll Close My Eyes, I Kiss Your Hand Madame, As Children Do

I Remember Italy - Here's a subtle one for all you amateur psychologists out there!

Choice cuts: Frou Frou, Zingarella, Malanoche, Twin Peaks (just kidding)

Music For The Girl You Love - You know, like for that real pretty blue-eyed blonde sweater girl you love.  A great, uncluttered cover design.

Choice cuts: Moonlight Becomes You, Secret Love, Day In, Day Out

Havana, 3 a.m. - You know  it's getting late when women like this start looking good.  Crazed dance music from the Ricky Ricardo era.

Choice cuts: Besame Mucho, Freeway Mambo, The Peanut Vendor

Bachelor Apartment - This is one of those stupid "party records" from the early 60's.  Yet, the whole "I Dream of Jeannie" thing is not without its appeal...  "Yes, master".

Choice cuts: At The Bachelor Apartment, Tight Quarters Sports Car
