Automatic Toasters The venerable toaster, humble servant to mankind, advanced to "automatic" toasting in the 30's. Since the basic mechanism is so simple, styling has always been important and often reflected the times - art-deco, streamlined, even modern. In some of the examples below, redesign went beyond mere styling to challenge the automatic "pop-up" mechanism itself.
• Toastmaster's Model 1A-1 was the first automatic pop-up toaster.
This typical G.E. toaster from the 50's was more common in brown than white. •
• The Toast-O-Lator was the Cadillac of toasters, and featured a "pass-through" toasting mechnism.
